Description

A quilted bedspread, 220cm by 140cm, made up in a blend of cotton and linen. The face carries a traditional block design in rust, screen printed rather than woven in. The whole quilt is worked over with Kantha stitching, the running stitch that holds the layers together and gives the surface its texture, and the reverse is finished with a contrast stitch.

At 220 by 140cm this is the shorter of the two Peplu quilts, and it is made for layering across a double or a king-sized bed rather than covering one outright. Laid across the foot, the 220cm runs side to side and the 140cm falls down the length of the bed. It weighs 1.8kg, so it adds a layer over a duvet without much weight on top of it.

The quilt is cotton and linen. The block design is screen printed onto the face, and the quilting is Kantha, a running stitch worked by hand across the whole piece, a technique passed down through generations that gives the surface its depth and softness. The Peplu quilt is also made at 220 by 240cm, and both sizes come in a sage green as well as this rust.
