Description

This green stoneware bowl is 16cm across and 5cm tall and holds 525ml. Its finish is a reactive glaze, and across one side runs a diagonal band in a second tone with a fine ridged texture, edged with a speckled line where the green glaze breaks. A reactive glaze shifts as it fires, so no two pieces leave the kiln quite alike, and the rim is softly uneven rather than a machined circle. At 0.478KG it is a solid, substantial piece for its size.

At 525ml this is a proper everyday bowl: the right size for breakfast cereal or porridge, a portion of soup, a side salad or a helping of pasta for one. The low, open shape makes it comfortable to use at the kitchen table, and it works just as well for olives, nuts or crisps when friends visit. It suits a relaxed kitchen or a dining table laid for a long weekend lunch, and anyone who prefers tableware with a little variation and character to rows of identical plain pieces.
