This breakfast set brings together twelve stoneware pieces for the start of the day: cups, bowls and plates, all finished in the same grey reactive crackle glaze. The crackle is a fine web of lines running through the glaze. On every piece the glaze gives way to a rough, textured band of bare stoneware around the foot of the cups and bowls and along the edge of the plates. The cups are 8cm tall and 9cm across, with a rounded, almost globe-like body and a small loop handle. The bowls are 16cm across and 6cm tall, and the plates are 20cm across and 1.5cm tall.

Those sizes settle the job of each piece. The cup is a coffee or tea cup rather than a big mug. The bowl suits cereal, porridge, yoghurt or fruit, and the 20cm plate is a side or breakfast plate size, right for toast, pastries or a slice of cake. Laid out on the kitchen table or a breakfast bar, the set covers a relaxed weekday breakfast or a slow weekend brunch with friends, and it works just as well for afternoon tea.
