Description

This is a lidded butter dish in stoneware, a compact rectangular box 12.5cm long, 9cm wide and 7cm tall with a 300ml capacity. The base is covered all round in a blue floral pattern of small daisy-like flowers framed by rings of fine dots, and the lid carries the word butter in simple lowercase lettering, so nobody at the table has to guess what is inside. Stoneware is fired hard and dense, and this dish comes in at 0.642KG, a solid weight in the hand.
