Description

The large Parili wreath is 44cm across and built as two rings rather than one: a larger outer ring and a slightly smaller inner ring, set off centre so the two cross near the top and open apart towards the bottom. Sprays of ochre glass leaves and clusters of small pale wooden beads are wired onto both at intervals, with bare wire showing between them. The leaves are veined and translucent and run from clear yellow through amber to russet.

Two rings give the wreath a drawn line rather than a solid ring, and at 44cm it takes a wall or a chimney breast where the 24cm one suits a cupboard door or a window catch. Hung on a plain wall, the light comes through the leaves rather than off them. It hangs from a dark red sari tie and weighs 0.33kg.

The rings are metal, formed by hand. Every leaf is tied on separately with fine brass wire and the beads are threaded on by hand, so no two wreaths carry the sprays in the same places, and each sari tie is one of a kind. Parili runs at 24cm as well, and as a pair of candle holders carrying the same leaves and beads.
