Description

A set of four hand blown wine glasses in recycled glass, each 16cm tall and 7cm across. The bowl narrows in from a wide waist and opens again a little at the rim, and it stands on a short thick stem and a heavy disc foot. The glass carries a faint green cast that gathers where the bowl meets the stem and again in the foot, and small bubbles are caught through the walls.

Each glass holds 250ml, and the bowl is a balanced shape suited to red and white alike rather than one cut for either. The stem is thicker than a fine crystal one and gives the glass a sturdy base on a laid table, which is what makes it a glass for ordinary meals rather than one kept back. At 16cm it stands lower than a tall stemmed wine glass and clears a laid table without reaching over the plates.

The glass is recycled. Waste glass is collected and cleaned to remove impurities, then crushed, melted down and blown by hand, and the faint green cast and the trapped bubbles come out of that rather than being added to it. Each glass is blown rather than moulded, so the height and the line of the bowl differ a little across a set of four. The Pani range also runs to a tumbler, a highball and a champagne flute in the same glass.
