Ovila Large 1 Light Glass Pendant - Smoked Black

The Ovila Large is a 30cm wide glass pendant with an oval smoked black shade suspended from a polished chrome ceiling plate on an adjustable cable. The shade is vertically ribbed across its full surface, creating a texture that breaks up light transmission and casts soft ambient glow rather than direct downlight. The smoked glass itself varies in opacity depending on light angle, appearing almost opaque black when unlit and translucent charcoal grey when the E27 bulb inside is switched on.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands, entrance halls and stairwells, the Ovila suits rooms with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 3.5m. The adjustable cable allows the pendant to be set anywhere from a minimum drop of 55cm to a maximum of 200cm, giving flexibility to position the shade 70-90cm above a dining surface or to drop lower into a double-height space. The polished chrome canopy measures approximately 10cm diameter and fits standard UK ceiling roses.

The smoked black glass finish pairs with mid-century, industrial and contemporary interiors where a darker material palette is used. The ribbed surface catches and reflects ambient daylight differently throughout the day, so the pendant reads as a sculptural object even when switched off. At 2.8kg the glass shade has weight and presence without needing additional support beyond the standard ceiling fixings. The E27 lampholder accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 20W (bulb sold separately), with most users choosing a warm-white LED filament bulb to complement the smoky tone of the glass.

What bulb does the Ovila take?

The pendant takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 20W. The bulb is sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb at 2700K-3000K to complement the smoked glass tone.

Can the drop height be adjusted?

Yes. The cable is adjustable on installation from a minimum drop of 55cm to a maximum of 200cm, allowing the pendant to be set at the right height for dining tables, kitchen islands or double-height spaces.

Is the smoked glass fully opaque?

No. The smoked black glass appears almost opaque when unlit but becomes translucent charcoal grey when the bulb is switched on. The vertical ribbing diffuses the light and creates texture across the shade surface.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

No. The Ovila carries an IP20 rating, which means it is not protected against moisture and must only be used in dry indoor locations away from bathrooms, wet rooms and outdoor areas.
