Description

The Ovila Large is a 30cm glass pendant with an oval shade formed from vertical ribbed glass in a warm cognac tint, suspended from a chrome ceiling plate on an adjustable cable. The shade measures 30cm across at its widest point and 45cm tall, housing a single E27 bulb (sold separately) rated up to 20W. The ribbed surface refracts light through the cognac-toned glass, casting a soft amber glow that works as ambient rather than task lighting.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands, entrance halls and lounge corners where warm atmospheric light is needed, the Ovila sits 55cm below the ceiling at minimum drop and extends to 200cm maximum, allowing adjustment during installation to suit ceiling height and furniture placement. The chrome canopy fits standard UK ceiling roses and the cable conceals the wire run. At 2.8kg the pendant needs secure ceiling fixing but does not require additional support beyond the ceiling rose.

The cognac glass tone sits between amber and caramel, giving a warmer presence than clear or smoke glass while remaining translucent enough to show the bulb filament when lit with a visible-filament LED. The vertical ribbing runs from top to bottom of the oval shade, creating linear highlights under daylight and diffusing bulb glare when lit. The chrome canopy and cable hardware provide a cooler metallic accent against the warm glass, making the pendant adaptable to both warm-toned interiors and cooler contemporary schemes.

The pendant takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 20W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for ambient light that complements the cognac glass tone.

What drop height works best over a dining table?

The pendant typically sits 70-80cm above a dining table surface for a 4-6 seater table. With the shade measuring 45cm tall and the minimum drop being 55cm from ceiling to shade top, this works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. The 200cm maximum drop allows adjustment during fitting.

Is the glass shade replaceable if damaged?

Glass shades on Schuller pendants are typically available as spare parts through the manufacturer or specialist lighting suppliers. Contact us for availability if you need a replacement shade for the Ovila.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the pendant is for dry indoor use only. It is not rated for bathroom zones where moisture or water splash may occur.
