Otuba Ribbed Highball Tumblers - Clear - Set of 4

A set of four highball glasses, each 14cm tall and 7cm across, holding 550ml. The form is a tall barrel that draws in at the foot and again towards the rim, with fine vertical ribs running the whole height and stopping at a plain band under the lip. The glass is thin for its size and clear, and a scatter of small bubbles sits through the base where the recycled stock has trapped air.

550ml is a long drink rather than a short one, so these take a mixed drink with plenty of ice, a soft drink over a meal or a tall glass of water. At 14cm they stand above the rim of a jug on the same table. The ribs run under the fingers so a wet glass has something to grip against, and they cut the light into vertical lines down the side.

The glass is recycled and hand blown. Waste glass is collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is blown into a ribbed mould, so the depth of the ribbing and the scatter of bubbles differ from glass to glass. How are the ribs made?

The glass is blown into a ribbed mould, so the texture is formed in the glass rather than cut into it afterwards.

How should they be looked after?

Wash them after every use to keep the glass from staining. Use a mild detergent, do not leave them to soak, and handle them with care.
