Otoro Small Oval Recycled Glass Pendant Light - Smoke

The small oval Otoro in smoke is a tall egg of glass 30cm long and 20cm across, narrow at the top where a brass collar caps it, widest below the middle, and drawing in to an open rim at the bottom. Unlit the glass is a cool grey, deepest where the wall thickens towards the base. A brass chain runs up beside a rust coloured fabric flex to a brass ceiling rose, the same fittings the clear shades use.

Smoke glass changes with the switch. Off, it is grey and reads as a solid shape against a pale wall; on, the tint warms to a bronze brown and the bulb shows through it clearly. At 20cm across this is the narrowest shade in the range, which is what makes it the one to repeat: three over a kitchen island, or a pair either side of a bed at reading height. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, it is dimmable, the flex runs 1.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand into a mould, so the depth of the smoke and the wall thickness change from one shade to the next. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces: round and oval shades in small and large, in clear, green, smoke and honey, plus a cluster pendant and four wall lights. The oval is the tall shape and the round is the flattened one. Bulbs are not included.

What does smoke look like when it is lit?

Warmer than it looks switched off. Unlit the glass is a cool grey; with the bulb on the tint reads bronze brown and the bulb is clearly visible through it.

Is the chain brass or black?

Brass, with a rust coloured fabric flex, the same as the clear shades. Only the green shades use a black chain.

How many will fit over a kitchen island?

At 20cm across, three sit comfortably along a standard island. Each comes with its own 1.5m flex and ceiling rose.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the bulb cool, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
