Otoro Small Round Recycled Glass Pendant Light - Honey

The small round Otoro is a flattened sphere of honey coloured glass, wider than it is tall, closed all round apart from a small opening at the top and a flat circular foot underneath. The glass is smooth and clear enough to see straight through, so the brass lampholder hanging inside on a short brass stem is part of what is seen. A brass collar caps the opening, and above it a brass chain runs up beside a rust coloured fabric flex. It is 21cm tall and 31cm across.

Honey glass takes the colour into the light. Switched on, the shade itself goes gold and what falls below it is warm rather than white, and because the glass is transparent the bulb stays visible as a point inside the colour. At 31cm across it hangs over a kitchen island or a hall table on its own, and a row of them over a longer run does the same job without crowding. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, it is dimmable, the flex runs 1.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled, blown by hand into a mould, so the wall thickness and the depth of the honey change from one shade to the next. The fittings are brass. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces: round and oval shades in small and large, in clear, green, smoke and this honey, plus a cluster pendant and four wall lights. Bulbs are not included.

How is it different from the large round?

The large is 32cm tall and 45cm across against 21cm and 31cm here. The shape, the glass and the fittings are the same.

Will the bulb be visible?

Yes. The glass is transparent, so the bulb and the brass holder inside show through it.

Does the colour change the light?

Yes. The glass is honey coloured, so the light that comes through it is warm and the shade itself goes gold when the bulb is on.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the bulb cool, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
