Description

The large oval Otoro in green is the tall egg at 48cm long and 31cm across, which is the longest shade in the range. The sides run almost straight through the middle before turning in at the top to a brass collar and at the bottom to an open rim. The glass is tinted a soft smoky green, deepest low down where the wall is thickest and lightest at the shoulder. A black chain runs up from the collar to a black ceiling rose 14cm across.

Length is what this one is for. A shade 48cm long fills the vertical space in an entrance hall or a stairwell where a wide shade would only fill the plan, and it hangs low enough over a table to be read as an object rather than as a ceiling fitting. Light leaves through the open rim onto the surface below and through the tinted glass all round. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, it is dimmable, the flex runs 1.5m, the height can be adjusted by an electrician, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand into a mould, so the depth of the green and the wall thickness change from one shade to the next. The frame and fittings are iron with a brass collar at the neck. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces: round and oval shades in small and large, in clear, green, smoke and honey, plus a cluster pendant and four wall lights. Bulbs are not included.

Is it the same size as the clear large oval?

No. This one is 48cm long and 31cm across; the clear large oval is 44cm long and 30cm across. The green is the longer of the two.

Is the chain brass like the clear ones?

No. The green shades come on a black chain and a black ceiling rose 14cm across. The collar at the neck of the shade is brass on both.

How is it different from the small oval?

The small is 30cm long and 20.5cm across against 48cm and 31cm here, and 1.79kg against 3kg.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the bulb cool, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
