Otoro Large Round Recycled Glass Pendant Light - Clear

The large round Otoro is a flattened sphere of clear glass, 45cm across and 32cm tall, closed all round apart from a small opening at the top and a flat circular foot underneath. A brass collar caps the opening and the lampholder hangs inside it. A brass chain runs up beside a brown fabric flex to a brass ceiling rose. The glass is clear all through, so the holder and the bulb are part of the shape rather than hidden by it.

At 45cm across it covers a wide circle below and the whole sphere lights up at head height. It carries 5.24kg of glass, so the ceiling fixing has to be a proper one. Over a round dining table, in the middle of a hall, or at the foot of a stairwell it does the work on its own without anything beside it. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, it is dimmable, the flex runs 1.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand into a mould, so the wall thickness and the small marks in it differ from one shade to the next. The fittings are brass. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces: round and oval shades in small and large, in clear, green, smoke and honey, plus a cluster pendant and four wall lights. The round is the flattened shape and the oval is the tall one. Bulbs are not included.

How is it different from the small round?

The small is 31cm across and 21cm tall against 45cm and 32cm here, and 2.69kg against 5.24kg. The shape, the glass and the fittings are the same.

What is the difference between the round and the oval?

The round is a flattened sphere, wider than it is tall. The oval is the tall shape, longer than it is wide.

Will the bulb be visible?

Yes. The glass is clear, so the bulb and the brass holder inside show through it from every side.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the bulb cool, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
