Otoro Large Oval Recycled Glass Pendant Light - Clear

The large oval Otoro is the same tall egg of clear glass at 44cm long and 30cm across, which at that size reads as more barrel than egg: the sides run almost straight through the middle before turning in at the top to a brass collar and at the bottom to an open rim. The glass is clear all through and the brass lampholder hangs inside from the collar in full view. A brass chain runs up beside a brown fabric flex to a brass ceiling rose.

At 44cm long this shade occupies the space it hangs in rather than keeping out of the way. Light leaves through the open rim and through the glass all round, so it lights the surface below and reads as a lit object at head height. Over a dining table or a kitchen island one is enough, and in a hall it hangs low without needing anything beside it. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, it is dimmable, the flex runs 1.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand into a mould, so the wall thickness and the small marks in it differ from one shade to the next. The fittings are brass. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces: oval and round shades in small and large, in clear, green, smoke and honey, plus a cluster pendant and four wall lights. The oval is the tall shape and the round is the flattened one. Bulbs are not included.

How is it different from the small oval?

The small is 30cm long and 20.5cm across against 44cm and 30cm here. The shape, the glass and the fittings are the same.

What is the difference between the oval and the round?

The oval is the tall shape, longer than it is wide. The round is a flattened sphere, wider than it is tall.

Will the bulb be visible?

Yes. The glass is clear and the shade is open at the bottom, so the bulb shows through it and directly from below.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the bulb cool, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
