Description

A storage pot cut from reclaimed wood: a round well about 19cm across with a flat handle running off one side, pierced through with a long oval opening. The bowl and the handle are one piece of timber, and the whole measures 30cm from the far lip of the bowl to the end of the handle, standing 8cm tall. The wood is pale, the grain runs right through the form, and the tool marks are left where they fall.

It is 8cm deep, which suits the things that get put down and picked up again: keys, a watch, rolled napkins, a phone. The handle gives somewhere to hook a finger when it is full and makes it easy to carry from one room to the next. On a hall table, a console or a kitchen worktop it sits low enough not to block what is behind it, and at 30cm end to end it wants a surface with some run to it.

The pot is reclaimed wood, shaped and then hand-etched with traditional tools, and finished so the marks of whatever the timber was before still show through. Because each piece of reclaimed timber is different, the colour, the grain and the old marks in it vary from pot to pot. It is food safe.
