Description

The Nuvali is a rectangular cushion cover, 60cm across and 40cm tall, woven on a handloom from jute and cotton. Rust zigzags run in wide bands from side to side, and inside each band sit small ochre sprigs picked out in a finer yarn. The ground is an undyed oatmeal and the weave carries a visible rib, so the pattern reads as texture as much as colour.

At 60 by 40cm this is a lumbar cushion rather than a square one, and it sits at the small of the back on a sofa or in the corner of a deep armchair. Set in front of plain square cushions rather than behind them, the whole of the pattern stays in view. The 0.5cm thickness given is the cover flat and folded, so the depth it ends up with is the depth of the inner put into it.

The yarn is jute and cotton. Jute carries the body of the weave and cotton the softer surface, and the two are woven together on a traditional Indian handloom. This is the outer cover only, so an inner is needed and is not supplied with it. Nuvali is made in two sizes, this one and a 50cm square.

Frequently Asked

Is a cushion inner included?

No. This is the outer cover only, so the inner is bought separately.

What size is it?

60cm by 40cm. Nuvali is also made as a 50cm square.

What is it woven from?

Jute and cotton, woven together on a traditional Indian handloom.

Will every cover look the same?

Closely, but not exactly. Each cover is woven and stitched by hand, so the zigzag bands do not fall in quite the same place on any two.

How do I look after it?

Spot clean only, with a damp cloth or a sponge. The colours may fade in direct sunlight.
