Description

The Nuvali is a square cushion cover, 50cm on each side, handwoven from jute and cotton. The ground is the natural oatmeal of the undyed fibre, and across it runs a geometric pattern in muted rust: large linked diamonds with stepped motifs set inside them, banded by chevrons. The weave is thick and a little uneven, and the pattern is worked into the weave rather than printed onto the surface.

A 50 by 50 square is the size for the back of a sofa or an armchair. On a plain or neutral sofa the pattern carries on its own. The rust reads warm and muted rather than bright, and it sits against natural rather than against white. This is the outer cover only.

The cover is jute with cotton, woven on a traditional Indian handloom and then braided and stitched by hand. Jute is a rain-fed crop that needs little fertiliser or pesticide and spins into a strong thread, and the cotton woven alongside it softens the result. The inner is not included. The Nuvali cover is also made as a 60 by 40 rectangle in the same rust.
