Description

We stock the Nordis as a solar powered wall light for outdoor use, so there is no wiring to run. A black aluminium bracket holds a vertical wood-effect diffuser panel over an integrated 2W LED, which gives 98 lumens of warm white light at 3000K through the panel. The solar cell sits in the round aperture at the top of the bracket and charges the internal 3.7V battery through the day.

We would fit it to a garden wall, a gate post, a shed or a fence beside a path or steps. Once charged, it comes on by itself at dusk and switches off at dawn, and the wood-effect panel spreads the light in a soft 87 degree wash downward rather than a tight beam, so it lights the ground below instead of glaring out. With an IP65 rating it is sealed against dust and against water jets from any direction, so it copes with UK weather all year.

The LED is dimmable and adjusts its own brightness to suit the charge left in the battery, so it lasts through the night. It renders colour at CRI 80 and runs at 3.7V from the solar cell, with no mains supply and no bulb to change, as the 2W LED is built in. The body is black aluminium, which shrugs off weathering and corrosion inland and near the coast, and the 350mm panel makes it the taller of the two Nordis sizes we stock.

Frequently Asked

Does it need any wiring or mains power?

No. It runs entirely on solar power. The cell on top charges an internal 3.7V battery during daylight, so there is nothing to wire in and no running cost.

When does it come on?

It works automatically from dusk to dawn. Once the battery is charged through the day, the light switches itself on at dusk and off again at first light.

Can I use it outdoors in all weather?

Yes. It is rated IP65, so it is sealed against dust and against water jets from any direction, which suits an exposed wall, gate post or fence in the UK.

Is it dimmable, and does it take a bulb?

The 2W LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to fit or replace. It is dimmable and sets its own brightness to match the charge left in the battery.
