Description

A lantern 41cm tall on a 15.5cm square base. A deep dome caps it, seamed over the crown and carrying a small square vent collar, with a thin handle hinged either side of that collar which folds down flat. Each of the four faces below is glazed, and the metal is cut into an arch over every pane, so the glass reads as four arched openings. One face is a door, held by a ring pull on its edge, and the whole thing stands on a flat square tray with a turned-up lip.

At 41cm this is the shorter of the two Nivas sizes. It stands on the floor beside the taller one, both taking lit pillar candles, and at this height it will also stand on a hearth, a console or a wide windowsill. The door gives access to the full height of the inside, so the candle goes in and comes out from the side. It is for indoor use.

Aluminium with clear glass panels. Each part starts as flat sheet, cut to a pattern, then heated and shaped by hand before the pieces are welded up. The finish is on the outside only: seen through the glass, the inner frame and the floor of the lantern are a raw pale grey against the aged outside. The Nivas is made in two sizes. The candle is not included.

What goes inside it?

Can it be left burning?

No. Position the candle securely and keep the flame away from the glass. It gets hot in use, so keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Can it go outside?

No. It is for indoor use only.

How are the glass and the metal kept clean?

Wipe both regularly with a soft, dry cloth so dust and dirt do not build up, and go over the glass with a microfibre cloth in a circular motion. Warm water with a mild dish soap takes off excess wax; dry it immediately and do not let it soak.

What sizes does the Nivas come in?

Two, both 15.5cm square. This is the small at 41cm tall, and the large stands 54cm.
