Description
A tall lantern, 54cm high and 15.5cm square, glazed on all four sides. The metal frame is cut into an arch above each pane, so every face reads as an arched window rather than a plain rectangle of glass. A domed top sits above them, seamed down the middle and finished with a small raised vent and a thin hinged handle that folds flat over the dome. One face is a door, closed by a small ring pull on its outer edge, and the base is a flat tray with a turned-up lip.
At 54cm this stands on the floor rather than on a table. A hearth, the foot of a stair, or the floor beside an internal door are where that height works. The door opens the full height of one face, so a candle goes in and comes out through the side, and the handle folds up to carry the whole lantern in one hand. It is for indoor use.
The lantern is aluminium with clear glass panels. Each piece starts as a flat sheet of metal, cut to shape, then heated and worked by hand into the curve of the dome, and the parts are welded together before the finish goes on. The finish covers the outside only: inside the frame, and across the floor of the lantern, the metal is left a pale raw grey that shows through the glass. The Nivas is made in two sizes. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked
What candle does it take?
A pillar candle, standing on the floor of the lantern. The candle is not included.
How is a lantern cleaned?
Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth so dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Excess wax comes off with warm water and a mild dish soap; dry it straight away and do not let it soak.
Can it be used outdoors?
No. It is for indoor use only.
Does it get hot in use?
Yes. Position the candle securely and make sure the flame is not directed at the glass. Keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
What sizes does the Nivas come in?
Two. This is the large at 54cm tall. The small is 41cm.
