Description

The Nimit is a tealight holder blown from recycled glass, 13cm tall and 13cm across. It is a straight sided pot that draws in to a small flat base, and the rim is left uneven, rising and falling around the mouth rather than running level. A band of close vertical ribbing runs round the middle of the body. Above and below that band the glass is heavily mottled in antique gold, flecked and patchy rather than laid on evenly.

A tealight sits inside it, and one holder is supplied. With the candle lit the mottled surface breaks the light into patches and the ribbed band throws it out in vertical lines. At 13cm it is deep enough that the flame sits well down inside the glass. It is made for a mantelpiece, a shelf or a side table.

The glass is recycled, melted down and reshaped, and it is worked by traditional methods, which is what leaves the rim uneven. Because each one is formed by hand, the rim, the mottling and the depth of the gold differ from holder to holder. A tealight is not included.
