Description

A quilted bedspread 240cm by 220cm, with a cotton velvet face and a linen back. The quilting is Kantha, worked by hand as rows of running stitch set close together, and it pulls the velvet up into narrow parallel ridges that run the length of the piece. The reverse carries a contrast stitch, and the linen sits flatter and a shade paler than the velvet.

At 240 by 220cm it is sized for king and super king beds. On a super king, turning it so that the 240cm side runs down the length of the bed gives a longer drape at the sides. Laid over a bed with the ridges running across the width, it covers the top and falls clear down both sides. In our photographs the colour reads warm and sandy on its own and cooler, closer to cream, against a room.

The face is cotton velvet and the back is linen, which gives the two sides a different handle and lets the piece breathe. The Kantha stitching is sewn by hand, so the run of the rows and the tension across them differ from one bedspread to the next.
