Description

A quilted bedspread 220 by 240cm, with a face of charcoal cotton velvet and a base of natural linen. The quilting is Kantha, run by hand in close parallel lines that pull the velvet into fine ridges across the whole of it, and the stitch on the reverse is worked in a contrasting thread against the linen. The velvet reads matt rather than shiny, and the ridges hold the light in narrow bands down the drape.

It measures 220 by 240cm, which is sized for a King bed and hangs at both sides; turned the other way round it runs longer down a Super King, which is what the extra 20cm is there for. It weighs 4.1kg. Laid across a bed, the quilting reads as fine vertical lines down the side.

The face is cotton velvet and the base is linen. The Kantha stitch is sewn by hand, so the lines are not machine-even and the texture shifts across the piece, and the reverse carries its contrast stitch as a finish. This size of quilt is also made in rust, moss, sage green, dusty pink and natural, and there is a smaller 220 by 140cm size in charcoal, rust and moss.

Follow the care label. The temperature on it is the highest the bed linen will take, and a cooler wash uses less energy. The fabric softens with every wash, and a gentle fabric softener can be used now and then. Line drying gives the best result, or tumble dry on low and take it out promptly.
