Description

The Nidra is a quilted bedspread 220cm by 140cm, with a cotton velvet top in charcoal and a natural linen reverse. The quilting is Kantha, sewn by hand in close parallel rows of running stitch that run the length of the piece and draw the velvet into soft ridges. A contrast stitch finishes the reverse. The charcoal reads flat where the pile lies one way and lifts towards grey where it lies the other.

At 220cm across and 140cm down, this is a quilt for the foot of the bed rather than a full cover: laid across a King or Super King it takes in the bottom two thirds and leaves the pillows clear. Turned the other way it runs down a Super King for a longer drape. The velvet face goes up and the linen goes against the bed, so the side that shows is the side that is warm to the touch.

The top is cotton velvet and the base is linen, which breathes where the velvet holds the warmth. The Kantha stitching is worked by hand, so the lines are not machine-even and the texture varies across the surface. The Nidra range is made in several colours and in a larger 220 by 240cm size.
