Description

The Ngolo is a tealight holder in recycled glass, 16cm tall and 16cm across, with walls thick enough that it weighs 1.3kg. The form is a deep open bowl with sides that stand almost straight and round in at the foot, and the rim is left uneven, dipping and rising round the circle rather than running level. The upper two thirds is a milky, frosted grey-green. The lower third is a mottled gold shading to dark brown, and the two meet on a wavering horizon rather than a straight edge.

This is the large of three sizes. A tealight set inside sits well down in the bowl, so the flame is out of sight and the light comes through the frosted wall rather than over the rim. Lit, the gold band reads brightest and the grey above it stays soft. At 16cm across it takes a clear surface: a hearth, a wide windowsill, the middle of a table.

The glass is recycled and the holder is blown into a simple mould, so the thickness of the wall and the line where the gold meets the grey fall differently on every one. The range runs to three sizes in this smoke and to the same three sizes in amber. No candle is included.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

16cm tall and 16cm across. It is the large of three sizes.

What candle does it take?

A tealight, standing on the base of the bowl. No candle is included.

Is the glass recycled?

Yes. The waste glass is collected and washed to take out impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is blown into the mould.

Will every one look the same?

Not exactly. Every holder is blown by hand, so the smoke and the gold fall differently on each one.

How do I use it safely?

Stand the tealight securely and keep the flame clear of the glass. The holder gets hot in use, so keep it out of reach of children and wait until it has cooled fully before handling it. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

How do I look after it?

Wash it with a mild dish soap and warm water after each use so wax does not build up, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away.
