Description

The Nesda is a hand blown glass tealight holder 9cm tall and 9cm across, a rounded beaker that draws in at the shoulder and opens again at the rim. The rim is left uneven on purpose, rising and falling around the circle, with a thin band of bare glass along the very edge where the finish stops. The surface is frosted and granular rather than smooth, and the tone travels across a single holder from near black through smoke brown to a pale bronze bloom.

At 9cm this is a small holder, and it sends light out through the glass wall as much as up out of the top. Lit, the frosting carries an amber glow where the flame sits behind it and thins toward the rim, so it reads as a pool of light rather than a point of one. It suits a mantelpiece, a windowsill or a run down the middle of a table, and the larger Nesda at 13cm gives the same shape at a greater height for two levels together.

The glass is recycled. Waste glass is collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is blown into a simple mould, and a smoke brown antique finish goes on afterwards. Because the mould is plain and the blowing is done by hand, the line of the rim, the thickness of the wall and the depth of the finish all vary from one holder to the next. Tealights are not included.

Frequently Asked

What candle does it take?

A tealight. Tealights are not included.

How big is it?

9cm tall and 9cm across. The large Nesda holder is 13cm tall and 13cm across.

Will every holder look the same?

No. Each one is blown by hand into a plain mould, so the uneven rim, the thickness of the wall and the depth of the finish differ from holder to holder.

Does it get hot in use?

Yes. Set the tealight in securely and keep the flame away from the side of the glass, keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.

How do I look after it?

Use a dry soft cloth to lift any dust and handle it carefully. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from it, as they can damage the finish. It is for indoor use only.
