Description
Our Neri cup is a black stoneware cup with a generous 350ml capacity, which makes it a proper mug-sized cup for tea or coffee rather than a dainty teacup. Fine vertical ribs run the height of its outer wall, stopping just short of a smooth band at the base, and a rounded loop handle leaves room for your fingers. It measures 9cm across and 9cm tall. The surface carries a shimmering glaze, so the black has a soft sheen where the light falls across the ribs, rather than the flat look of a plain matt finish.
It belongs on the kitchen table for a first coffee of the morning, beside the kettle for an afternoon tea, or on a desk through a long working day. The black glaze and ribbed texture suit a rustic wooden table, a linen cloth or a modern kitchen with black fittings, and it sits happily alongside plain white plates as well as other black stoneware. A single cup makes a thoughtful small gift for a tea or coffee lover, and a few together give a breakfast table a calm, coordinated look without any pattern or bright colour.
The cup is made entirely of stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing ceramic fired at high temperature, and it weighs 0.35KG, so it has a reassuring solidity in the hand. It goes in the dishwasher, which keeps everyday use simple, but it is not suitable for the microwave or the oven, so heat milk in a pan and pour it into the cup. For a simple display, hang it from a cup hook under a shelf or stand it on an open shelf with the handle turned outwards, where the ribbing shows to best effect. The styling props shown are not included.
