Nadia Tumblers - Mocha - Set of 4

A set of four short tumblers, each 9cm high and 8.5cm across, holding 450ml. The body swells out from a heavy base to its widest point at the shoulder, then turns in a little towards the rim. A broad ribbon of chocolate brown glass winds round the outside in a single spiral from below the rim down towards the foot, and the rest of the wall is a smoky clear that takes the brown down into a warm grey where the two meet.

At 450ml in a glass only 9cm high, these are wide and low rather than tall, so they sit in the hand rather than being gripped round, and the heavy base keeps them steady on a table. That suits water and juice as readily as a short cocktail. Four to a set covers a table, and because the spiral runs round the whole body each glass shows a different part of it depending on how it is put down.

The glass is recycled: discarded glass is collected and melted down before it is blown. Each tumbler is blown first and the chocolate brown glass is worked in afterwards, while both are still molten, which is why the ribbon stretches wide on one glass and pulls thin on another. No two in a set carry the same spiral.

Are they food safe and dishwasher safe?

Yes to both. Wash them after every use so that they do not stain, use a mild detergent rather than anything strong, and do not leave them standing in water.
