Description
The Murwara is an arched wall mirror 102cm tall and 91cm wide, framed in a narrow flat band of cast aluminium under an antique brass finish. The arch is round topped with straight sides and a flat lower edge, and the frame carries the faint seams and slight ripples that sand casting leaves behind. The glass is antiqued across the whole plate rather than at the border, a dense warm mottle of grey and beige lying over the silvering.
At 91cm wide against 102cm tall it is close to square, so it reads as a broad arch rather than a tall one and suits a wall that gives it width. That is a mantelpiece, a sideboard in a dining room, or a console table in a hallway. Because the antiquing runs edge to edge the reflection is broken up and dimmed throughout, so the mirror works as a way of moving light around a dark wall rather than as one to check a hem in. It hangs from a single keyhole plate set into the top of the backing board, and at 10.64kg the fixing behind it has to be rated for the weight.
The frame is cast aluminium and the plate is glass. Sand casting begins with a mould pressed into sand, so every casting takes its own surface out of the mould and no two frames carry the same texture. The antique brass finish goes on once the metal has cooled. The Murwara range also runs to a plain arched mirror, two rectangular wall mirrors and two full length mirrors, all in the same finish.

Frequently Asked
How does it hang?
From a single keyhole plate set into the top of the backing board, so it goes on one fixing. It weighs 10.64kg, so that fixing has to be rated for the weight.
Is the glass clear?
No. The whole plate is antiqued, so the reflection is mottled and dimmed right across the surface rather than only at the edges.
Can it be hung landscape?
It is made to hang vertically and its orientation is portrait, at 102cm tall by 91cm wide.
Will every frame look the same?
Not exactly. The frame is sand cast, which leaves an irregular organic texture, so the surface differs from one mirror to the next.
How do I look after it?
Wipe it regularly with a microfibre cloth, working in a circular motion, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from it.
