Description

Murané is a small wall and ceiling light: a ball of Smoke Grey glass, 10cm in diameter, set against a half-dome plate in a Brushed Champagne finish. The glass has a rippled, gently uneven surface that catches and bends the light, giving a little movement to a plain wall or ceiling even when the light is off. Inside sits an integrated LED of 4W, giving 167 lumens of warm white light at 2700K with a CRI of 90, so colours and skin tones look natural under it. Being an integrated LED, it needs no bulb, so there is nothing extra to buy before it goes up.

It fits on a ceiling or on a wall, surface-mounted or partially recessed, and it projects 13.2cm from the surface, so it suits corridors, landings, stairways and alcoves where a larger fitting would crowd the space. At 167 lumens it is a gentle, decorative light rather than the main light in a room. We would use one to mark a doorway, a pair either side of a bed in place of bedside lamps, or several in a row along a passage, where the warm points of light give a soft rhythm. It is an indoor light, rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The plate has a Brushed Champagne finish, a soft, pale gold with a fine brushed grain, which sits easily beside the Smoke Grey glass. It runs on 230V mains and is wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician. It is not dimmable, so it belongs on a plain on/off switch rather than a dimmer circuit. One practical note before you choose a spot: with a projection of 13.2cm, on a narrow stair or a tight corridor wall it is worth checking that people will pass clear of it, or putting it on the ceiling instead.
