Munir 140 x 200cm Linen Throw - Charcoal

A linen throw, 140 by 200cm, handwoven in a charcoal that is not flat: a dark yarn and a lighter natural one are worked together, so the surface reads greyish brown and flecked rather than solid. The weave changes in bands down the length, tight and even in places and loose and crinkled in others, and the slub in the linen stands proud where the weave opens out. Both short ends finish in a long fringe of twisted cream threads.

At 140 by 200cm it covers the back and one arm of a sofa, or lies across the foot of a double bed with the fringe hanging clear of the frame. Over the back and arm of a sofa the fringe falls down the side. Folded, the banded weave shows as ridges across the fold rather than a flat face.

The throw is linen throughout, woven by hand on a traditional Indian handloom. Because it is woven by hand the bands do not fall in the same places on every throw, and the slub varies along the length, so one reads smoother than another. Not exactly. Each throw is woven by hand, so the bands of open and close weave fall differently and the slub varies along the length.

How do I wash it?

Check the label before washing. Some fabrics are washable and some should be spot cleaned only: lift a spill with an absorbent tissue, blot with a sponge or a folded towel wrung out in lukewarm water, then dry the patch with warm air from a hairdryer so it does not mark. Larger stains should go to a professional. Every throw is tested for colourfastness.
