Montali Rattan 2 Tier Cake Stand - Black & Natural

The Montali is a two tier stand, 37cm high and 31cm across, built from woven rattan on an iron frame. Both tiers are shallow woven cones with a dark bound rim, the upper one smaller than the lower, and they sit one above the other on a dark iron post that runs up through the centre and finishes in a ring. The lower tier stands on a flared woven pedestal, so the first tier is already lifted clear of the surface. The rattan is natural straw and cream with dark strands worked through it.

The two tiers take fruit, vegetables or eggs, and because both are open weave the air moves right through them and round whatever is in them. The lower tier is 31cm across and the pedestal lifts it clear of the surface, so it holds a load without spreading across a worktop. The ring at the top is a handle, and the whole thing lifts and moves in one hand.

The tiers are rattan and the post, the ring and the frame are iron. The rattan is woven by hand over the metal frame, so the weave and the spacing of the dark strands differ from one stand to the next. Rattan matures faster than timber and the same plant is cut more than once, which is what makes it renewable. It is food safe. How do I look after it?
