Description

The Mika is a rectangular cushion cover, 60cm wide and 40cm tall, woven in black and natural. The face runs in three vertical bands, black at each side and undyed cream through the middle, and every band is worked in short horizontal dashes so the surface reads as a grid rather than as a flat weave. The dashes are cream on the black and black on the cream.

A 60 by 40 cover sits in front of the square cushions rather than behind them. On a plain or neutral sofa the black and cream grid is what reads first. The weave is thick and the texture is pronounced enough to feel under the hand. The yarn is shower proof, so the cover also works on a covered porch or a bench in a porch or a garden room.

The yarn is made from recycled plastic bottles. Polyethylene terephthalate is broken back down into its original monomers and spun into a thread that looks and feels close to cotton, and the cover is woven from that thread with cotton. The inner is not included. The Mika range also holds a 50 by 50 square cover in the same black and natural.
