Description

Mettemarie is a large, wide iron bowl in gold, 36cm across and 13cm tall, with a capacity of 9000ml. Its surface, inside and out, is covered in small dimples that give it a hammered look and catch the light as you move around it, so the gold never reads as flat. The sides curve down from a thin, open rim towards a narrower base, and inside the dimpling gives way to a smooth, flat circle at the centre. For a bowl this size it is light, at 0.83KG, which matters when it is full and you are carrying it to the table.

The maker approves it for food, so this is a bowl for the table as much as the shelf. At 36cm across it is a proper serving bowl: big enough for a tossed salad for a gathering, a heap of fruit on the kitchen table, or bread rolls passed round at a long lunch.
