Description

The Menmai cover is cut from cotton velvet in cinnamon, a burnt orange with brown underneath it, and measures 50 x 50cm across the face. A flange of the same velvet lies flat around all four sides, so the seam sits a little way in from the edge rather than on it. The reverse is natural linen.

Velvet takes light differently depending on which way the pile lies, so the face reads pale across one part of it and much deeper across another, and that pattern shifts whenever the cover is moved or leant on. On a pale or neutral sofa the cinnamon reads warm and strong. At 50 x 50cm it is a full square, so it belongs at the back of a sofa seat or against a headboard rather than in front of something larger.

The face is cotton velvet and the reverse is natural linen, which is flatter and cooler to the hand than the pile side. The flange is soft rather than piped, so it lies down against whatever the cushion rests on instead of standing proud. Four colours are made in this 50 x 50cm size, and the Menmai range also runs a longer 35 x 80cm cover.
