Description

A wall shelf 90cm wide and 25cm tall, with a mango wood plank carried on two shaped wooden brackets, each cut with a concave curve running from the wall down to the tip. A slim iron rail runs along the front of the board and returns at both ends, standing proud of it so that what is on the shelf cannot slide off the front. The rail is finished in antique brass against the pale wood.

The shelf takes up to 10kg and stands 26cm out from the wall, which is deep enough for a row of jars, a stack of plates or a short run of cookbooks rather than a single line of small things. At 90cm wide it fits above a worktop run or between two wall units. In a kitchen it carries jars, jugs and mugs, and the rail takes a board stood upright behind them.

The board and the brackets are mango wood, selected for its grain and then sanded and finished so the figure shows through. The gallery rail is iron, fixed on by hand. Each shelf is hand carved and assembled, so the grain runs differently across every board. There is a larger Meera at 110cm wide, which takes 12kg.
