Description

Meera is a small round storage jar with a lid, made from 80% iron and 20% aluminium and given a gold plated finish. At 10cm across and 6cm tall it is wider than it is tall, a low, rounded pot that takes up very little room on a shelf or a dressing table. The lid lifts off completely, and on top sits a bow, tied as if on a wrapped present, which gives you something to hold as you open it. Around the body runs a band of hammered dimples that catches the light differently from the smooth, shiny lid.

Because it is small and closes with a lid, it suits the things that otherwise go missing: rings, earrings, a spare key, hair grips or the odd button. On a dressing table or bedside table it keeps jewellery together, and on a hallway shelf it can take whatever you empty from your pockets. It is a Christmas piece, and the bow makes that plain: stand it on the mantelpiece among the decorations, or give it as a present with something small tucked inside. Once the season is over, the round shape and hammered body sit just as happily on a dressing table for the rest of the year.

The jar's iron and aluminium are finished with gold plating, and the whole jar weighs 0.14KG, so it is easy to lift and move from room to room.
