Description

The Meera is a wall shelf in mango wood, 110cm wide, standing 26cm out from the wall and 25cm high overall. The board is a single plain plank with the grain running along it. An iron gallery rail on short uprights runs along the back edge in an antique brass finish that has gone dark in patches, and two shaped brackets carry the shelf, each cut with a curve where it meets the underside.

The gallery edge stops what stands on the shelf from being pushed off the back, which is what makes this a kitchen or pantry shelf rather than a display one: jars, bottles, a row of tins, a board stood on its edge. At 110cm there is room for a long run of them, and the shelf carries up to 12kg. It is also made 90cm wide, for layering on the same wall.

The wood is mango, sanded and finished to bring up the grain, and the iron gallery brackets are fixed on by hand. Each shelf is hand-carved and assembled, so the grain runs differently from one to the next.
