Description

The Mediterrània S/52 is a white LED pendant light with a wide, undulating ribbon shade that rises and falls around its edge like a gentle wave. The White Translucent Ribbon shade is 52cm across and 14.5cm tall, with fine pleats that radiate out from a slender tapered stem, and it hangs on a single cable from a small round canopy 7cm across. The whole fitting is 200cm tall. Its light comes from an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change: 10W gives 517 lumens of warm 2700K light with a CRI of 90 for true, natural colour.

We think it belongs over a dining table, where the broad shade spreads a soft pool of light across the table and the translucent ribbon glows gently as people sit beneath it. It works just as well in a living room, hung over a coffee table or in a corner that needs a low, warm light, and a pair side by side makes a calm, balanced line over a long table. The fitting is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only. It is TRIAC dimmable, so with a compatible dimmer you can bring it down for supper and up again when the table is cleared.

The structure is made from iron and aluminium and finished in white, so the tapered stem and the small canopy sit quietly against a pale ceiling while the shade's curving edge draws the eye. The design is by Alex Fernández Camps, who turned a single ribbon into a shade with real movement in it. The fitting runs on 230V and is wired in to the mains, so it needs a qualified electrician to install it. Once it is in, simply switch it on, set the dimmer where you like it, and enjoy a warm, even light over the table every evening.
