Mayla 50 x 50cm Linen Cushion Cover - Olive Green

A 50cm square cushion cover in linen and cotton, olive green with a broad band of undyed natural running straight across the middle third. The green sections are woven in a nubby looped texture and the pale band is flatter and smoother, so the face changes under the hand as well as by eye. Fine black lines are stitched from top to bottom at regular intervals across the whole front, sharp against the pale band and half buried in the green.

At 50cm this is the standard square, the size that goes in front of a larger cushion or sits on its own in an armchair. Set between two bigger natural cushions, the olive is the only strong colour in the row. The band across the middle sits at eye level when the cushion stands upright against a back, and the stitched lines cross it at right angles, so from a few feet away the face reads as a grid rather than as a stripe.

The linen and cotton are woven on traditional looms and the black lines are stitched in afterwards by hand, which is why their spacing wanders slightly and no two covers carry quite the same rhythm. Mayla also comes as a 50cm square and a 60 x 40cm rectangle in natural, and as a 140 x 200cm throw.

Are the black lines printed?

No. They are stitched in by hand after weaving, so the spacing shifts a little from cover to cover.

How do I look after it?

Wash it at 30 degrees with a mild detergent, and steam iron it only if it needs it. Do not tumble dry it and do not bleach it. It may shrink a little in the wash.
