Description

This is a round stoneware dinner plate, 27cm across and 3cm tall, painted by hand in blue. A border of feathered leaf shapes and dots runs round the rim, and a sprig of five lemons on leafy branches fills the centre. At 27cm it is a full dinner plate size, with room for a main course and its sides, and at 1.16KG it has the reassuring weight of proper stoneware. The rim is gently uneven, which suits the loose, painterly brushwork.

Use it for everyday dinners at the kitchen table, or set it out when friends come round for a long weekend lunch. The lemon motif sits naturally beside a summer salad, grilled fish or a simple risotto, and the blue border frames whatever you serve. It works as a dinner plate in its own right and also makes a generous serving plate for bread, cheese or roasted vegetables passed round the table. Because the decoration is so lively, it looks best beside plain linen and simple glassware, letting the plate set the tone.

The plate is 100% stoneware, with the decoration painted by hand over a solid glaze, so the brushwork varies a little from one plate to the next.
