Description

The middle of three Mawindi heights, 26cm tall on a flat disc foot 8cm across. The extra height goes into the stem rather than the top: the same rounded bead and the same straight-sided cup sit where they do on the 18cm, and it is the plain run of stem below the bead that is drawn out. The iron is pitted and granular the whole way up, under a dark red-brown rust finish that sits deeper in the hollows than on the raised edges.

At 26cm the flame sits above a sightline across a dining table, so this one belongs on a sideboard, a mantel or a hall table rather than between people at dinner. The foot is 8cm on all three heights, which is what lets them stand together without the tallest looking unsteady. It can be used indoors and outdoors.

The piece is iron throughout under a muted rust finish, left rough rather than smoothed, so the tone varies along the stem and from one holder to the next. Mawindi runs at 18cm, 26cm and 30cm on the same foot. The candle is not included.
