Description

The Maua is a flush ceiling light made from brass: a single dome shade on a short neck, topped by a round ceiling plate. It is 14cm tall and 20cm across, so it keeps close to the ceiling and stays neat in a smaller space. The open underside of the dome sends the light down into the room from one E27 bulb holder. Bulbs are sold separately: it takes one E27 bulb, up to 40W per bulb, so you are free to pick the bulb you like. The Maua comes in Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Antique Silver and Satin Brass, so you can match it to the other metals in your home.

A hallway is where we think it works best. Its low profile keeps headroom clear in a narrow entrance or a passage with a modest ceiling, where a hanging pendant would get in the way of taller visitors, and the 20cm shade is in proportion with a hall without looking slight. Place one just inside the front door, or run a line of them along a longer hall so the light falls evenly as you walk through. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

Each Maua is made to order for you in Ireland, in brass, and finished in the version you choose. It is a Class I mains fitting for a qualified electrician to install, wired in to the mains and sitting on the ceiling on its round plate, with no chain or cable drop to set to height. Once it is up there is nothing to adjust beyond fitting the bulb. When you choose the finish, look at the metals already in your hallway, such as the door handles, a mirror frame or a radiator valve, and pick the one that sits most happily alongside them.
