Maua 35 x 80cm Boucle Lumbar Cushion Cover - Mocha

The Maua is a lumbar cushion cover, 35 by 80cm, woven on a handloom from boucle yarns of jute and wool. The yarns run in horizontal bands across the face, each band a different weight and texture, so the surface rises and falls: tight loops in one band, loose shaggy tufts in the next, flatter weave between them. The colours run through cream, oatmeal, tan, rust and a dark brown that reads almost black, mixed within the bands rather than blocked out.

At 35 by 80cm this is a long, low cushion, made to lie across the back of a sofa or an armchair rather than to stand up in the corner of one. It sits in front of larger square cushions on a sofa, and does the same job laid across the pillows on a bed. Against plain upholstery the bands of loop and tuft catch the light from the side, so the surface reads deeper than a flat weave would.

The yarns are jute and wool, woven on a handloom in a mix of weights and widths, which is what gives the face its depth. Because the yarn mix and the weaving are done by hand, the bands fall differently on every cover. This is the cover only.

What should I do about a spill?

Lift the liquid first with an absorbent tissue, then blot the area with a sponge or a clean folded towel moistened in lukewarm water. To avoid water marks, dry the area by blowing warm air across it from a hair dryer. Larger or more stubborn stains should be cleaned by a professional. The covers are tested for colourfastness.
