Our Marola placemats come as a set of four, each made from 100% bamboo and striped in blue. Fine strips of bamboo lie side by side, bound together in neat rows, and every few strips the blue gives way to bare bamboo, so broad stripes run from one long edge of the mat to the other. Each placemat is 45cm long and 35cm wide, a generous rectangle that gives a single place setting plenty of room, and the four together lay a table for four in one go.

They belong in the kitchen and the dining room: lay them out on a dining table, a kitchen table or a kitchen island whenever you set the table. A mat between your tableware and the tabletop guards the surface against knocks and scratches, which is worth having on a painted or oiled wooden top you want to keep looking good. The blue stripes give a relaxed, summery feel, so they suit a casual everyday table as much as a table laid for family and friends, and they sit happily beside plain white or grey tableware.

Because the bamboo strips are fine and flexible, each mat rolls up, so the four store neatly in a drawer or on a shelf between uses.
