Description

The tall Maro stands 21cm high on a square base of 8cm, with clear glass framed in brass on all four sides. The roof rises to four pitched faces and carries a small square chimney at the peak, and a flat brass handle arches over it. One pane is hinged as a door and closed by a simple pin fixing. The floor of the lantern is a sheet of brass.

The extra height is what separates this from the smaller Maro, and at 21cm it is made for a mantelpiece. It carries the same way on a hall table or a deep windowsill, and a pair at either end of a shelf gives two points of light rather than one. The handle folds down when it is not being carried.

Brass throughout apart from the panes, which are clear glass. The antique tone is uneven across the surface, darker in the angles and around the solder lines. The Maro range also holds a smaller lantern at 12cm on the same square base. A candle is not included.

Frequently Asked

What size candle does it take?

A tealight.

How does it open?

One of the four panes is a door with a pin fixing. Lift the pin and the door swings out.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. It is for indoor use only.

How do I clean a lantern?

Wipe it over regularly with a soft, dry cloth so that dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Warm water and a mild dish soap will take off any wax; dry it straight away rather than leaving it to soak.

Does it get hot in use?

Yes. Position the candle securely and keep the flame away from the glass. Keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
