Description

Three glass baubles in a deep pink-red, each about 8cm long and 4cm across, and each a different form: a tiered one with a small bulb above a larger one and a pointed finial below, a shouldered onion ending in a point, and a broad faceted cone. Vertical fluting runs the whole length of all three. The colour is not even across a bauble, deepening to near purple where the glass folds into a flute and lightening along the raised ribs. Each hangs from a dark velvet tie under an embossed metal cap.

Ruby reads darker on a green tree than amber or gold and wants light behind it rather than in front, so these sit best at the outer end of a branch or near a run of lights. With light behind them the fluting shows as a set of bright vertical lines down the glass. At 8cm they will also stand in a bowl as a table dressing rather than going on a tree at all.

The glass is recycled and hand blown, which is what leaves the mottling through every piece, and the caps and rings are iron. No two baubles in a set carry the streaking the same way. Manipur also runs in indigo, in amber and in green.
