Description
A cake stand turned from mango wood with a recycled glass dome over it. The stand is a flat round plate 35.5cm across on a turned baluster stem and a stepped round foot, and the plate carries a shallow rebate round its edge that the rim of the dome slots into. The dome is hand blown, with a looped glass handle at the top and the small bubbles that come with recycled stock. With the dome on, the whole thing stands 35cm high.
At 35.5cm across, the plate holds a whole cake, a round of cheese with biscuits set round it, or a stack of scones, and it stands on a dining table with the dome over it. The dome comes off by its handle, so the stand can be used open as a plain footed plate. It is food safe.
The stand is mango wood and the dome is recycled glass. The waste glass is collected, cleared of impurities, crushed and melted before it is blown or moulded, so the tone and the bubble pattern differ from dome to dome. Mango is a by-product of fruit growing in India, cut for timber once the trees have stopped bearing, and the grain and colour of the wood vary from stand to stand.

Frequently Asked
How big is it?
The plate is 35.5cm across, and the stand is 35cm tall with the dome on.
Does the dome come with it?
Yes. The dome slots into a rebate round the edge of the plate, and comes off by its handle.
Is it food safe?
Yes.
Is the glass recycled?
Yes. The waste glass is collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is blown or moulded.
How should it be looked after?
Hand wash the dome only, with a mild dish soap, and rinse it in clean water. Wash the wooden stand in warm soapy water after every use, rinse it and dry it straight away, and do not leave it soaking. An edible oil such as olive or walnut rubbed into the wood with a dry cloth will protect it, though it will darken the tone.
