Description
This table mirror sets a round glass face in a thick frame of acacia wood and raises it on a turned stem of stacked shapes: a rounded bulb, a faceted diamond, a second bulb and a domed foot. It stands 40cm tall, 20cm long and 12.5cm wide, which lifts the glass well clear of the tabletop, and at 1.2KG it is easy to pick up and move. The frame and stem are acacia, the mirror is glass, and MDF is also part of its make-up. The brown of the wood is warm and varied, with the grain running in rings and swirls through every turned section.
We would put it first on a dressing table or a bedroom chest of drawers, where a small freestanding mirror is handy for putting in earrings, fixing hair or checking makeup, with no drilling and no hanging. It sits just as well on a sideboard in a living room, where the turned stem reads as a piece of woodwork in its own right, or on a deep windowsill, bathroom sills included, where daylight falls on the glass. It suits anyone who wants a practical mirror that looks good when nobody is using it, and it makes a thoughtful gift for someone furnishing a bedroom or a guest room.
The acacia is finished with a sealer and lacquer, which gives the wood a soft sheen. Acacia is a dense hardwood with a pronounced grain, so the pattern of rings and streaks differs from one piece to the next and yours will carry its own. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download, so you can read them before it arrives. For styling, we like it on a dark wood surface, where the warm brown shows best, or among stone, brass and pale linen for a softer, quieter look. Keep the space around it simple and let the turned stem lead.
