Description

The Malia dinner plate is stoneware, 28cm across, with a wide flat rim and a shallow well. The rim carries a band of fine lines running out to the edge, painted by hand, and the outermost edge is finished in a speckled dark brown where the glaze pulls thin. The well is plain, under a cream reactive glaze that clouds and shifts across the surface.

At 28cm this is a full dinner plate and the largest of the Malia plates; the side plate is 22.5cm. The rim is flat and wide, so the well that takes the food is narrower than the overall span. It is dishwasher safe and food safe.

The plate is stoneware, shaped on a wheel and glazed by hand in China. The glaze is reactive, so it answers the heat of the kiln differently at every firing and no two plates carry the same markings. The line pattern on the rim is painted on by hand. The Malia range runs to a side plate, a breakfast bowl, a serving bowl, mugs, jugs, an oval platter, a teapot, a cup and saucer, and a twelve-piece set.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

28cm across.

Is stoneware dishwasher safe?

Yes. This plate is listed as dishwasher safe, and as food safe.

Will every plate look the same?

Not exactly. The glaze is reactive and answers the heat of the kiln differently at each firing, so the markings and the depth of colour vary from plate to plate.

Is it sold singly?

Yes. This is one plate.

How do I look after it?

Wash it after use rather than letting food stand on it, use a mild detergent and do not leave it to soak. It will chip if it is knocked, so handle it with care.
